People believe being a person of style requires the gift of extensive fashion knowledge.  Having a sense of self and staying true to your character and personality is the best way to begin to embrace being fashion forward.

I often find that trends tend to repeat themselves and today we definitely have become our mothers and fathers.  There are three staple items that I value more than others. I call these three items the Perfect Trio.

First is the Oversized bag. The large bag is a necessity in the wardrobe of anyone who calls themselves a “fashionist” as they simply cannot live without an oversized bag. A large bag allows one to carry their world on their shoulder (literally) however still remain fashionable while doing it. These days this accessory comes in a number of colours and can be found both on the high street and in designer boutiques. I find that the most luxurious bags are butter soft leather, accented with gold zips and are blood red, black or camel coloured.

Secondly African Fabric is a great way to culturally connect to a specific country, era and season. African fabrics can be made into the most elegant dresses and the most exclusive head garments. Traditional fabrics are often made of strong material with loud and bright vibrant colours. When it comes to selection these fabrics are all different and most have perfect symmetry and balance.

Finally “The Dress”. A Dress can be flirty, sexy, practical and even timeless. The cocktail dress can have the elegance of a sweetheart collar and the length of a mini skirt. The Maxi dress can elongate a woman’s body and is a must item when going on holiday. The black shift dress can be fitted enough to create an hourglass shape however elegant enough to be worn to the office. A woman can always benefit from having at least one dress in her wardrobe to wear when the opportunity arises.

You may find that you have your own identified trio. It takes a special someone to be able to stay on trend and remain an individual at the same time. A style icon can be as glamorous in casual wear as they are in the best designer frock.
