Most of you would have already heard about Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. otherwise known as Snoop Dogg and his public verbal attack of Gayle King who is the lead anchor of “CBS this morning” and best friends with Oprah Winfrey. Gayle was criticised by Snoop for highlighted Koby Bryant’s allegation of sexual assault during an interview following Bryant’s tragic plane crash that killed him, his daughter and 10 others. Snoop went all in and called Gayle a “dog-haired bitch” and stating that she should “back off, before we come get you”.
Despite the public support that Snoop said he received, he decided to make a public apology to Gayle without even consulting his publicist. Snoop’s video recorded apology had a huge impact as well as set a revolutionary example of humility to AfroGlobal men especially in regard to.
48 year old Snoop expressed during his discussion on the ‘Red Table Talk’ that he felt like he had “ too much power “ and that he was abusing it at that particular time. He said that he felt as if he had to make it right. Snoop credits his beloved mother ‘Beverly Tate’ for calling him out on his bad behaviour. He said that when his mum called him to speak to him about his public attack of Gayle; he felt like a child but acknowledge that he went about things the wrong way. Snoop also said that other prominent AfroGlobal men in the industry such as Tyler Perry and Puff Daddy also reached out to him in love but still highlighting that Snoop could have expressed his views differently.
During Snoop’s discussion with The Red Table Talk hosts jada pinkett smith, Willow Smith and Adrienne Banfield-Jones, he stated that “You have to wanna be checked if you’re gonna check somebody else”
Snoop who has been married for over 24 years to Shante Monique Broadus also talked about how important it has been for him to seek credible counsel to help direct his decision making in life. Snoop said that singer and song writer Charlie Wilson 67, has been his long-time confidant and source of counsel helping him to make better life decisions.
Despite Snoop facing recent personal challenges including losing his grandson and challenges in his marriage; this revolutionary apology has set a great example to AfroGlobal men in regard to taking responsibility for their actions and also showing respect to AfroGlobal woman.
This positive apology is an example of AfroGlobal at its best.
