Stunning and spirited, Yetunde Johnson is a UK‑born singer and entertainer of Nigerian descent. A preacher’s daughter with a vibrant personality, she carries a presence that lights up any room. Her story is powerful, honest, and deeply inspiring — and the way she tells it will move you. She’s the kind of woman who keeps it real, speaks her truth, and embraces life with refreshing authenticity. Perhaps that’s why we’ve remained great friends since our first conversation a few years ago.

Her debut album is a love story in itself — but there’s even more to her reflections on true love in the Launch Edition of Your Magazine.

Sam: So tell me the story of your album.

Yetunde: The main theme of the album is finding true love and stability. But there are two sides to that love. First, there’s finding true love within yourself — which I believe is the foundation for finding true love with someone else. That’s really the heart of the album.

Most of the tracks explore my journey of trying to find the right man, but also learning to be patient with myself so I don’t repeat mistakes — which we all make. And yes, I made a mistake recently that’s still very fresh in my mind. But life is a great teacher.

The sound of the album is very varied — a little bit of everything — because that’s who I am. I can be serious, but I’m also jokey and relaxed. I have a good balance, and that definitely comes through in the music. There’s something for every mood.

Sam: Can you elaborate on this mistake?

Yetunde: “Mistake” might not be the right word, because I believe everything happens for a reason. For a long time, I was so focused on my work that I didn’t have the time or emotional space to let someone into my life or my heart. When I finally did, the person turned out to be someone I didn’t really know at all.

I discovered he was living a double life and treated me in ways I never imagined I would allow. The hardest part is that I still don’t have the answers I crave. The experience is still so fresh that I think it’s best to give it time before I try to make sense of it
